A sheep producer says the condition of his ewes has improved so much since he started bolusing them to redress a cobalt deficiency that they could be mistaken for a different flock

A deficiency in cobalt, which helps maintain vitamin B12 levels, was confirmed.
“We started using Animax’s cobalt, selenium and iodine bolus. The ewes are in a lot better condition, they sheared a lot better than they have in previous years, and the lambs have put on more weight,’’ says Mr Wilcox.

Chris Wilcox, of Walton, Somerset, had such problems with his sheep losing condition that he had them tested at the School of Clinical Veterinary Science at Langford.

He is confident the lambs will finish quicker which will not only save on labour but on worming and drenching costs too. 
“If you had seen the flock last year would would have thought we had different sheep here but it’s not, it’s the same flock,’’ says Mr Wilcox.
