Our Copper difference
The copper bolus is administered down the calf’s throat at the same time as the waxed-groove bolus, if applied.
The copper bolus dissolves within one hour of administration, releasing copper oxide needles that lodge in the rumen villi for up to 3 months.
All copper oxide needle solutions are manufactured in-house to both medicinal and nutritional standards to ensure the copper is available to the ruminant.
The copper oxide needles gradually displace into the abomasum (the fourth stomach). The low pH of the abomasum dissolves the copper stores which gradually deplete over 6 months.
The copper particles are then transported from the small intestine into the liver where they are stored and slowly released to body cells and used in the enzymes.
